I was Self-Sabotaging My Calling…

I was self-sabotaging my callingHave you ever been there… in that place where you had big visions and dreams, but you just felt stuck?  You felt like you were going around the same mountain?
On one hand, you feel like the external resistance to living your calling is great, but you also know that the greatest resistance is inside of you!
You desire to do great things, make your life count and fulfill the calling that you were created for…. but somehow you stay stuck.
Days go by, seasons go by, you have some success, but then you fall back.  Have you experienced this?  Maybe you are experiencing it now.
What happens if you stay in this place?  Will you get to the end of your life and have regrets? Or, will you get to the end of your life and know that you “left it all on the field”, gave 100% and lived for the Glory of God?
We all have a choice, each and every day about how we live.  Unfortunately, for many years, I made the choice to self-sabotage my success and my calling…
Now, this was not a conscious choice… instead it was a choice brought on by apathy and neglect.  It is not easy for me to admit this.  On the outside, things looked good, but on the inside I was struggling.
Here is what I was experiencing… I would start something new. I would have some success. Then things would get difficult. And, internally I would crumble.  I would get stressed, burn-out, and failure would come.
I would ask myself, “Why?” “Why am I back in this place?”  “Will this ever change?” Have you had those same thoughts?
Then, about 2 years ago, God started leading me on a journey.  It was a journey of growth… it was also a journey of desperation.  I was tired of being stressed out, frustrated and full of internal turmoil every-time life got difficult.  I was tired of my weakness sabotaging my success.
Jim Rohn says, “Don’t wish it was easier, wish you were better. Don’t wish for less problems, wish for more skills. Don’t wish for less challenge, wish for more wisdom.”

I slowly began to realize that I had to change, I had to grow, I had to get stronger… And that journey began with stripping things away so that I could get healthy.  Somethings, God stripped away, other things I chose to let go of.  Once these things were stripped away, I began a journey to healthy strength.

Here are the 4 areas of health that have transformed my life.

  1. Emotional Health – This was a big one for me and my family.  Because I had lived “without healthy limits” for so long, my emotional health and the health of my family had really suffered.  We were burnt out, and struggling in our relationships.  Through the help of the Emotionally Healthy Leadership Resources developed by Pete Scazzaro, intensive counseling with Father’s Heart Ministries and God’s Grace, we were able to experience restoration in this area of our lives.
  2. Spiritual Health – Because I was so worn out, my relationship with God had suffered.  Therefore, it was time for me to reconnect with Him.  I began starting my day with Bible reading, Prayer and journaling.  These were habits that I had let “fall by the wayside” as life became overwhelming.  As I sought after God and His presence in my life, more than His blessings, my spirit started to come alive again.
  3. Physical Health – For years I had neglected my physical health and my body.  This neglect had resulted in a damaged back that required surgery a few years ago, weight gain and low energy levels. I could not handle difficult situations because my energy levels were constantly low and I didn’t feel good.  I struggled to get through the day.  Through changing my diet, exercising, drinking water, and nutrition supplementation I have transformed my physical health.  I am well on my way to achieving my goal weight of 190 lbs, my energy levels are good and I feel great.
  4. Financial Health – Ever since my construction company failed in bankruptcy in 2009, we have struggled financially.  We carried financial obligations from what happened, tried to maintain our old lifestyle, and hung onto things that we should have let go.  Finally, in desperation we decided to make some hard choices.  We knew we had to get our finances healthy.  Therefore, we have sold many of our belongings, leased out our farm, and started building a direct sales business with Advocare.

Emotional and spiritual health were the focus of 2014.  Physical and financial health are the focus of 2015.  I am so thankful for God’s grace and mercy along this journey.  I am thankful that He has lead us every step of the way… And I am thankful that these changes have brought about strength that allows me to stop self-sabotaging my calling when life gets difficult.
