39: Starting a Business from 1 Gumball Machine w/ Matt Miller

EP. 39Today’s guest is Matt Miller of School Spirit Vending.
“The School Spirit Vending concept was developed in July of 2007 by Matt Miller of Kingwood, TX.
As a father of three, with years of expertise in both print media and vending, Matt was able to see school fundraising from a unique, outsider’s perspective.
One day, after a child in the neighborhood came by the house selling items for his school’s fundraiser, Matt decided to create a business that would help schools and their clubs or organizations raise money more simply.
Year-round, hassle-free fundraising with School Spirit Vending was born!
The School Spirit Vending concept and its simplicity has caught on so quickly that schools all over the country are already benefitting from the program with great results!!”

07: Grow Your Business Through Networking – Town Hall w/ Matt McWilliams

EP. 07In today’s Town Hall Meeting, we are talking about Networking.  Our guest is Matt McWilliams who is a business consultant from small businesses to large businesses. He mainly works with affiliate marking but also provides his services in areas such as social network marketing and customer retention.
I am a world changer. And so are you.
My goal here is to help you become the world changer that you were born to be. Sometimes that means helping you to shift your mindset. Sometimes it means giving you the tools you need in life, in business, or in relationships to change the world. Sometimes it means some good old fashioned motivation and inspiration… To be clear, I will not make you a world changer. You already are. My goal is to help you find that person inside of you.”

Key Takeaways

  • When it comes to networking your mindset is key. You must believe that you have the strength and ability to connect with people. You DO have the ability, it’s whether or not you believe in that capability that makes all the difference.
  • When you believe in your skills and strengths it shows through your network. Not just in your network but also in your interactions, ideas, and relationships.
  • “You don’t want people to know more about your business than they know about you.”
  • Practice the Birthday phone call habit to build your network.

04: Find More Customers & Get More Sales – Town Hall Show

Show 4 CoverWelcome to the first Friday Town-Hall Meeting. This is the show where were answer questions, discuss the challenges of small business, sometimes have a guest, and have a little bit of fun.  In today’s episode we talk about the challenges of finding new customers and getting new sales.  Every small business needs sales, so I am going to dive deep and talk about the solutions to this challenge.
Speaking of challenges.  It was a challenging start to the week…  We had some server issues, but we were able to get the podcast off the ground.  Thank you for being a part of it.
I would like your feedback.  My desire is to serve you.  Let me know your thoughts and suggestions for the show.  You can leave them in the comments below.
These business challenges came from our reader survey that we did late last year.

Business Challenge #1  “How do I laser-focus and define my core target client persona and her/his most urgent/biggest pain points to tailor my service modules to get precisely the results they need.”

  • Profile your existing clients or determine the profile of the market you want to serve.
  • Survey
  • Sample products
  • Market before you produce and get feedback

Business Challenge #2 – “How do I connect with the right market in ways that drive new business and create sustainable relationships and income potential.”

  • Once you have identified the market, find out where they “hang out”
  • Engage them there.
  • Build connections with influencers
  • Give lots of “gifts”
  • Have a strategy and system to build those relationships over time.

Finding New Sales

  • Past customers (Sales & Referrals)
  • Consistently build connections
  • Leverage tools so that you can connect 1 to many instead of 1 to a few
  • Look for tools that foster a two way conversation not just a 1 way conversation.
